Copper and Steel Orchid Plant

This is my first sculpture in a new series. The copper blossoms were made from a piece of 1 1/2" copper pipe that once was a fire line in a sawmill steam plant. I experimented with fold forming the copper before hammering in the convex shapes. I am very pleased with the result. When I quenched the annealed copper in snow it often took on darker shades of patina along the folded areas. The roots and stems are made from a recycled political sign.

Firewood Rack

This sculpture has function, but emphasis of the design was on beauty. I was inspired by Frank Loyd Wright with his rectilinear geometric patterns and also to contrast with a natural setting. The contrasting organic setting is the fire wood. I did however add a few leaves. The rack can be placed to show the leaves or turned around to emphasize the geometric pattern. Pine wood was used on the bottom make the rack friendly to an interior floor. The rack is three feet wide, three feet high and 15 1/2 inches deep, to hold 16 inch wood.

The Harley Owners Group had their annual event at Little Lake this July 16th. The weather was a tad hot but this year I had a shady spot. What a joyful time it was. Its all for the Bay Cliff Health Camp. I donated a brass rose sculpture for the auction. Last year it was a spider sculpture, the year before it was a skeleton's hand, I guess I'm becoming more domesticated. I had the opportunity to make friends with Micah who is enjoying Bay Cliff Health Camp this summer and was at Little Lake. Micah's assistant is holding a flower sculpture I gave him for Micah to bring home. Micah showed me some skillful driving even on the uneven ground. He even made a point to come and see me before he went back to Camp. Life is indeed good.

Past Project

One of my early metal projects, was a simple bowl. I shared my work on the "metalshapers " yahoo group site.

Metal has become my primary media , but wood and clay, and flat art on paper are sometimes revisited.

Garden Arch

This is my first garden arch. It was constructed from 3/4" rebar. The beauty will come from climbing plants. It will stands 10 feet tall after placement in the ground. The width is six feet and depth is two feet. The sun ray pattern compliments existing art on the grounds. Its quite sturdy regardless of the minimal triangulation. There is around 240 feet of bar and over one hundred separate pieces in this work .
